Taurus PT92 / PT99 / PT100 / PT101 / PT59 IWB Kydex Holster

The PT92 Family — Calibre Variants on a Shared Frame The PT92 (9mm), PT99 (9mm with adjustable sights), PT100 (.40 S&W), PT101 (.40 S&W with adjustable sights), and PT59 (.380 ACP) all use the same frame geometry, slide profile, and 5.0″ barrel length — overall length of 8.5″ across all variants. For holster purposes they are the same platform: the slide and frame dimensions that the shell contacts are identical regardless of calibre. The PT99 and PT101 use the same external geometry as the PT92 and PT100 respectively, with the only difference being adjustable rear sights that do not affect holster fit. All five models are compatible with this shell.

PT92 vs Beretta 92FS — Not the Same Holster The PT92 and Beretta 92FS are dimensionally similar but have a critical structural difference that affects holster compatibility. The Beretta 92FS places the safety/decocker on the slide, producing two raised lever projections on the slide’s rear flanks. The PT92 places the safety/decocker on the frame, leaving the slide surface clean. A shell molded for the Beretta 92FS’s slide-mounted safety levers will produce incorrect retention contact on the PT92’s smooth slide — and vice versa. This holster is molded for the PT92’s frame-mounted safety configuration. It is not compatible with the Beretta 92FS or Beretta M9.

Rail vs No-Rail Variants Current production PT92 models with the AF designation include a Picatinny accessory rail on the dustcover. Earlier PT92 models without the AF designation have a smooth dustcover with no rail. This shell includes a rail relief cut at the muzzle end of the dustcover to accommodate railed AF variants. Non-railed PT92 variants fit within the same shell — the rail relief cut does not create functional gaps on a non-railed frame at that position. Any PT92 variant with a mounted weapon light requires a separate, weapon-light-specific shell.

IWB Carry Considerations for a Full-Size Platform At 8.5″ overall length, 5.5″ height, 1.6″ width, and approximately 34 oz unloaded, the PT92 family is among the largest and heaviest platforms in this catalog. IWB carry of a full-size service pistol at this weight is manageable but requires a stiff belt and deliberate positioning. Strong-side carry at 3–4 o’clock with a neutral cant (0°) distributes the pistol’s length along the hip where the body contours support its weight. Appendix carry is possible for some body types but the 8.5″ overall length and elevated weight make it substantially more demanding than appendix carry of compact or subcompact platforms. Cant adjusts from 0° to 15° at the belt clip.

Shell Construction Full Kydex construction throughout. The trigger guard is fully enclosed within the mold from holster entry through the base of the guard. When the PT92 reaches full seating depth, the Kydex snaps back at the retention contact point, confirming seating audibly. The sweat guard extends behind the slide, keeping the rear of the frame off direct skin contact during IWB carry. The PT92’s DA/SA trigger and frame-mounted ambidextrous safety allows cocked-and-locked carry (safety on, hammer back) or decocked carry — the holster accommodates both states without affecting retention geometry.

Retention The retention screw is accessible from the exterior of the shell and adjustable without removing the holster from the belt. Test retention with the fully loaded firearm before daily carry — at 34 oz unloaded the PT92 carries significant momentum when moving, and retention set correctly for a lighter compact may be insufficient for this platform’s weight. The correct setting holds the pistol through full inversion without play while still allowing a clean draw.

Maintenance Keep the shell away from sustained heat sources. Clean with a damp cloth only — avoid solvents and abrasive materials. Check and tighten retention and clip screws at regular intervals. Do not apply lubricant to the screw hardware — lubricant attracts debris and promotes retention drift over time.
