GX4 vs. GX4 Carry — Why the Distinction Matters The Taurus GX4 and GX4 Carry are not interchangeable in holster selection. The GX4 Carry has a longer barrel (3.5″) and a slightly extended grip frame compared to the standard GX4 (3.0″ barrel). This holster is molded specifically for the GX4 Carry dimensions — the longer slide profile and grip length are built into the shell geometry. A standard GX4 will not seat or retain correctly in this holster.

All-Kydex Construction The shell is formed entirely from Kydex — rigid, non-porous, and unaffected by sweat or moisture exposure. There is no backing layer; the Kydex surface sits against the waistband directly. All edges are finished and polished along the full perimeter of the shell mouth and body, which removes the sharp edge that untreated Kydex leaves after forming and is the contact surface that matters most during repeated daily draw cycles.

Trigger Guard Coverage The shell encloses the full trigger guard within the molded structure. Coverage runs from the holster entry point through the base of the guard — there is no open section or partial coverage gap. A sweat guard extension runs upward behind the slide, keeping the rear of the frame separated from direct skin contact at the grip-to-slide junction.

Retention Mechanism Retention is set passively at the shell level — no active retention device or thumb break is involved. The adjustment screw controls how much resistance the GX4 Carry meets during the draw stroke. The usable adjustment range covers both secure daily carry and faster competition-style draw speeds. Set retention with the fully loaded firearm, not empty, as the added weight of a loaded magazine changes the draw feel slightly.

Belt Clip The clip attaches to the outside of the waistband and is sized for standard EDC belt widths. Cant is adjustable via the clip hardware. Because the GX4 Carry’s grip is longer than a subcompact, cant angle has a more direct effect on how the grip prints against clothing — a more aggressive forward cant reduces the grip’s lateral signature under a shirt but requires a more deliberate draw motion to clear the garment.
