Walther P22 / P22Q IWB Hybrid Holster
The Walther P22 and P22Q are compact .22LR pistols most commonly used for recreational shooting, plinking, and skills training. Their lighter weight and smaller frame dimensions compared to centerfire carry pistols make them an occasional choice for low-profile carry, and this holster addresses that use case directly — secure IWB retention in a hybrid construction sized to the P22 platform.
P22 vs. P22Q Compatibility Both the standard P22 and the P22Q variant are compatible with this holster. The P22Q introduced a modified frame texture and minor grip geometry changes, but the core slide and frame dimensions that determine holster fit remain consistent across both models. If you have a threaded barrel or suppressor-height sights installed, confirm fitment before ordering as those configurations alter the overall profile.
Hybrid Construction on a Lightweight Platform The P22’s polymer frame and aluminum slide make it one of the lighter pistols in its size class. Because the firearm itself weighs less than a centerfire equivalent, the holster’s hybrid backing — leather outer layer with a foam pad between leather and body — contributes proportionally more to the carry feel than it would on a heavier pistol. The foam compresses and sets to the carry position over the first few weeks of regular use.
Shell and Trigger Coverage The 0.08″ Kydex shell encloses the trigger guard fully within the molded structure. There is no open gap or partial coverage at the guard base — the shell wraps the guard from entry through the bottom, which is the contact point most relevant for IWB carry where the holster compresses against the body. An optic cut is present for users running a compact red-dot on the P22’s optic-ready rail variants.
Cant and Ride Height Cant adjusts from -25° to +25°. Given the P22’s shorter overall length, ride height adjustment has a more noticeable effect on print control here than on longer pistols — a higher ride position exposes more of the slide above the beltline, while a lower ride position tucks the grip more deeply but can slow the draw grip. Set ride height based on your clothing and carry position before committing to daily use.
One Practical Note The P22 uses a .22LR round with a significantly different terminal performance profile than centerfire defensive calibers. If this holster is being purchased for personal defense carry, that context is worth evaluating separately from the holster itself.
