Beretta APX A1 Full-Size IWB Kydex Holster — Streamlight TLR-7
Which APX This Holster Fits — and Why It Matters
The Beretta APX family spans five distinct platforms with significantly different slide lengths. The APX Full-Size and APX A1 Full-Size share a 4.25″ barrel and 7.55″ overall length with a full MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail on the frame — these are the two variants that support the TLR-7 and for which this holster is molded. The APX A1 Compact has a shorter slide at 6.9″ overall and a different muzzle profile that requires its own shell. This holster is molded for the full-size slide length and full-size rail geometry.
The following APX variants are not compatible with this holster:
APX Compact / APX A1 Compact — shorter slide, different muzzle geometry, requires separate shell
APX Carry / APX A1 Carry — micro-compact with no Picatinny rail; TLR-7 cannot be mounted
APX A1 Tactical — longer 4.72″ barrel at 8.2″ overall, different slide profile
APX Combat — different dust cover profile and slide geometry
TLR-7 Rail Fit on the APX A1 — Verify Before Daily Carry
The APX A1’s Picatinny rail accepts the TLR-7, but fit reports indicate the TLR-7 can exhibit slight front-to-back movement on the APX A1 rail specifically — a characteristic of the rail’s slot dimensions rather than the light itself. Before committing to daily carry with this configuration, verify that the TLR-7 is fully seated and locked on the APX A1 rail with no play. If movement is present, the TLR-7A or TLR-7X may provide a tighter fit on this specific platform. This holster is molded for the TLR-7 body geometry; the TLR-7A shares the same body dimensions as the TLR-7 and is equally compatible with this shell.
Light-First Fit Requirement
The shell is molded around the combined profile of the APX A1 Full-Size frame and the mounted TLR-7. The TLR-7 must be attached to the rail before holstering — the shell indexes off the light body as part of its retention geometry. Holstering the APX A1 without the TLR-7 installed will not produce a functional fit.
Interchangeable Grip Modules — No Effect on Holster Fit
The APX family uses interchangeable grip modules in Small, Medium, and Large sizes. The holster shell indexes off the slide geometry and trigger guard — not the grip module. Changing grip module size does not affect holster fit, retention geometry, or draw path.
Shell Construction
Full Kydex construction throughout. The trigger guard is fully enclosed within the mold from holster entry through the base of the guard. When the APX A1 Full-Size with mounted TLR-7 reaches full seating depth, the Kydex snaps back at the TLR-7 body interface, confirming seating audibly. The sweat guard extends behind the slide, keeping the rear of the frame off direct skin contact during IWB carry. At 7.55″ overall with a mounted TLR-7 adding forward mass, this is a full-size holstered profile — strong-side carry at 3–4 o’clock is the primary intended position.
Retention and Cant
The retention screw is positioned at the TLR-7 body interface — the primary lock point on the combined firearm-plus-light unit. Test retention with the fully loaded firearm and mounted TLR-7 before daily carry. Cant adjusts from 0° to 15° at the belt clip. The APX A1 Full-Size’s weight of approximately 29 oz unloaded — plus the TLR-7’s additional forward mass — makes this combination better suited for strong-side carry than appendix. A neutral cant (0°) at 3–4 o’clock distributes the combined weight closest to the hip, reducing leverage on the beltline.
Maintenance
Keep the shell away from sustained heat sources. Clean with a damp cloth only — avoid solvents and abrasive materials. Check and tighten retention and clip screws at regular intervals. Do not apply lubricant to the screw hardware — lubricant attracts debris and promotes retention drift over time.
