Springfield Hellcat PRO OSP IWB Kydex Holster — with Claw

Hellcat PRO vs Hellcat OSP — Two Different Pistols The “OSP” designation (Optical Sight Pistol) appears on two different Hellcat models that are not the same firearm. The Hellcat OSP is the original micro-compact with a 3.0″ barrel and an overall length of 6.0″. The Hellcat PRO OSP is a mid-size platform with a 4.0″ barrel and an overall length of 7.0″ — approximately 0.5″ longer overall with a taller grip that accepts 15-round flush magazines. This holster is molded for the Hellcat PRO’s 4.0″ barrel and slide geometry. The standard Hellcat OSP micro-compact (3.0″ barrel) is not compatible — the shorter slide does not reach the retention contact point within this shell.

All commercial Hellcat PRO models ship optics-ready as standard — every Hellcat PRO has a factory-milled slide for direct optic mounting. The “OSP” designation on the PRO is not an add-on variant; it is the base specification.

The following Hellcat variants are not compatible:

  • Hellcat OSP (micro-compact, 3.0″ barrel) — different slide length and frame geometry

  • Hellcat PRO RDP — integrated compensator alters muzzle profile and prevents correct seating

  • Any Hellcat variant with rail-mounted weapon light — this shell is molded for the bare frame only

Optic Cut — Shield Micro Footprint The Hellcat PRO uses the Shield Micro footprint for direct optic mounting, compatible with the Shield RMSc, Springfield HEX Wasp, and JP Enterprises JPoint. This shell’s optic cut is sized for the body height of Shield Micro footprint optics. Taller optics outside this footprint family may exceed the cut clearance and contact the shell on holstering. Test fit with your specific optic installed before daily carry.

The Claw — How It Works and When It Helps The claw is an L-shaped polymer attachment mounted below the trigger guard on the outside of the shell. When the holster is worn IWB, the claw’s contact surface presses against the inside of the belt. This creates leverage that rotates the grip end of the pistol toward the body, reducing the gap between the grip and the torso. The practical effect is reduced printing — the grip, which is the primary source of visible outline through clothing, is pulled flatter against the body.

The claw works most effectively at a neutral (0°) cant in appendix carry, where the belt provides consistent leverage at the claw contact point. At canted positions (10°–15°) in strong-side carry, the claw still functions but produces less rotation — the cant itself already tilts the grip forward and provides some concealment geometry on its own. The Hellcat PRO’s 4.0″ barrel and taller grip make it a particularly suitable candidate for claw use in appendix carry, as the longer grip has more leverage potential than the micro-compact Hellcat’s shorter grip.

Shell Construction Full Kydex construction throughout. The trigger guard is fully enclosed within the mold from holster entry through the base of the guard. When the Hellcat PRO reaches full seating depth, the Kydex snaps back at the retention contact point, confirming seating audibly. The sweat guard extends behind the slide, keeping the rear of the frame off direct skin contact during IWB carry.

Retention and Cant The retention screw is accessible from the exterior of the shell and adjustable without removing the holster from the belt. Cant adjusts from 0° to 15° at the belt clip. As noted above, a neutral cant (0°) maximizes the claw’s anti-print effect in appendix carry; a 10°–15° forward cant at strong-side is an alternative for users who prefer the grip tilted forward without relying on the claw for concealment.

Maintenance Keep the shell away from sustained heat sources. Clean with a damp cloth only — avoid solvents and abrasive materials. Check and tighten retention, claw, and clip screws at regular intervals. Do not apply lubricant to the screw hardware — lubricant attracts debris and promotes retention drift over time.
